The Vancouver Canucks placed forward Tom Sestito on waivers Friday.

Sestito has one assist and sevens penalty minutes in three games with the Canucks this season. If he goes unclaimed, it’s expected he will be assigned to the Utica Comets in the American Hockey League where he played three games earlier this season on a conditioning stint.

Canucks general manager Jim Benning said that Sestito was being put on waivers due to playing time reasons. “He said he’d rather be playing than sitting,” Benning told reporters in Vancouver Friday. Benning added that no forward will be called up at this time and that Sestito has a great attitude about the whole situation.

The six-foot-five, 230-pound tough guy first joined the Canucks on March 1, 2013 when he was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers.
