Jack Johnson will be getting a call from the NHL Department of Player Safety on Wednesday.
According to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, Johnson’s hearing will be over the phone, which suggests any potential suspension will be for less than five games.
The Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman laid a dangerous hit on Jiri Tlusty, who was caught with his head down while skating through the netural zone. Johnson appeared to leave his feet before hitting Tlusty with a shoulder to the head less than eight minutes into the third period Tuesday night.
Johnson received a minor penalty on the play for an illegal check to the head, while Tlusty left the game and did not return in Carolina’s 4-2 victory over Columbus.
Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said after the game that Tlusty felt fine, but he will need to go through the NHL’s concussion protocol before returning to the ice.
