The Winnipeg Jets have added another defenceman to their stable.
The team announced Friday that it has come to terms with UFA defenceman Brian Strait on a one-year contract worth $600,000.
Strait, 28, has spent the past four seasons with the New York Islanders as a shutdown defenceman, but one who doesn’t bring much in the way of offence. Strait’s career-high is nine points, which he got in 2013-14.
Strait was picked in the third round (65th overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, and spent the first five years of his career in that organization.
