Carey Price to start Team Canada’s first pre-tournament game

Shawn McKenzie and Chris Johnston talk about Carey Price being Canada’s number 1 goaltender and the importance of the pre-tournament games.

Carey Price is officially back. Or he will be on Friday at least.

According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, Price will get the start in Canada’s first World Cup pre-tournament game, which takes place Friday night in Columbus against Team USA.

As Johnston notes, it will be Price’s first in-game action since Nov. 25 of 2015. Price was sidelined with a knee injury for the rest of the NHL season. For a while it was unclear if he’d be ready to go for the World Cup, but after months of practicing and getting ready for the season and this tournament, Price is back.

Corey Crawford and last year’s Vezina winner Braden Holtby are the other two goalies pushing for time.
