An early look at potential lines for the World Cup of Hockey

Watch as Connor McDavid takes the ice with his Team North America teammates to take part in warm-up drills.

There’s nothing like the first day of World Cup of Hockey training camp to remind us that this tournament will be loaded with superstars.

It’s early and a lot can change between now and the start of round robin play on September 17, but it appears Team Canada has a lineup that could do some damage in the best-on-best September tournament.

Here’s a look at Team Canada’s line rushes on Day One of camp:

Forwards
Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron
Couture-Toews-Seguin
Tavares-Getzlaf-Stamkos
Duchene-Giroux-Thornton
Perry (rotated in for both Stamkos and Thornton on separate rushes)

Defence
Muzzin-Doughty
Vlasic-Weber
Pietrangelo-Burns
Bouwmeester

To the surprise of no one, Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid was holding down first-line duties as Team North America opened up its camp Monday.

Team Finland’s first day of camp featured an intriguing look on its top line with Aleksander Barkov centring a line with his Florida Panthers teammate Jussi Jokinen and 2016 No. 2 overall pick of the Winnipeg Jets Patrik Laine.
