Eve Gascon will be in the starting net for the Gatineau Olympiques on Saturday against the Rimouski Oceanic, becoming the third female goaltender to appear in a QMJHL game when she does.

Gascon will join Manon Rheaume and Charline Labonte in an exclusive group of trailblazers when she steps on the ice Saturday.

Shannon Szabados is the only other female goaltender to appear in a game in the CHL, which she did in the WHL.

The 18-year-old was called up to the Olympiques last week. She had been playing for her school team — the Saint-Laurent Patriotes — posting a 10-5-0 record with a 2.81 goals-against average and .899 save percentage for the boys team.

"I’m athletic, so I can make saves even if I'm not in a good position," Gascon said in an interview with Sportsnet's Wayne Scanlan, "but I try to be in good position to make the easy saves."
