This week was the deadline for teams to submit letters of intent to bid on the 2024 Memorial Cup and, according to Jeff Marek, the Kingston Frontenacs, Niagara IceDogs and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds were the three teams to show initial interest.
Official applications will be submitted in January before a decision is made, Marek reported on Hockey Night in Canada’s 32 Thoughts segment.
The Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL hosted the 2022 tournament, while the 2023 Memorial Cup is scheduled to be hosted by the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers. The Windsor Spitfires in 2017 were the most recent OHL franchise to host the Memorial Cup.
Sault Ste. Marie hosted once previously, way back in 1993. The Frontenacs and IceDogs have never appeared in the tournament.
