The son of a Calgary Flames legend has been picked by an Edmonton team in the WHL Prospects Draft.
The Oil Kings selected forward Joe Iginla with the 12th overall pick on Thursday.
Joe, 14, is the son of Jarome Iginla, who scored 625 goals and 1,300 points over 21 seasons in the NHL including 16 with the Flames. The Hall-of-Famer was born in Edmonton and currently resides with his family in Kelowna, B.C.
Joe is the youngest of the Iginla siblings who have all followed in their father's footsteps onto the ice. Jade, 18, earned gold for Canada at last year's Under-18 Women's World Championship while Tij, 16, currently plays for the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds.
The youngest Iginla played with Rink Hockey Academy's U15 Prep team in Kelowna and is described as a "complete player with exceptional compete and natural leadership," according to Oil Kings travelling scout Nels Eckland.
