The Los Angeles Kings have loaned defenceman Brandt Clarke to Canada's World Junior Team, with whom he will attend the upcoming team selection camp from Dec. 9-12.
Clarke, 19, will join the rest of Team Canada's hopefuls for the four-day camp before the final 23-man roster is announced on Dec. 12.
The Kings selected Brandt with the eighth-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. In 2021, Brandt had an outstanding OHL season as captain of the Barrie Colts that saw him rack up 59 points in 55 games.
His OHL success saw him named to the Kings' opening night roster in 2022, where he has appeared in nine games, picking up two assists. The youngster from Nepean, Ont., has also played in five games for the AHL's Ontario Reign, scoring one goal and one assist.
The 2023 edition of the World Juniors will run from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 and will be co-hosted by Halifax and Moncton, N.B.
Canada is the defending champion at this tournament after beating Finland 3-2 in overtime in August, after the tournament was initially postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic last December. There are 10 players from that gold-medal-winning team on the selection camp roster.
