The Ontario Hockey League says it could find "no evidence" goaltender Tucker Tynan wagered on league games after allegations surfaced late last year.
Tynan, who currently plays for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds after opening the season with the Niagara Ice Dogs, did not engage "in conduct to undermine the competitive integrity of any games," the OHL said in a statement.
According to The Sault Star, a Twitter user with the handle JoeyKnish22 accused Tynan of "part of an illegal bookmaking operation" in a series of tweets posted in December.
"After he accepted losses from my friend of over $7000 to his cashapp and personal bank account, then refused to pay out winning and stiffed him,” JoeyKnish22 alleged, adding other people had reached out to them with similar allegations.
Following the allegations, the OHL opened an investigation and the team said it was "aware" of the situation but refraining to comment until the investigation was complete.
Tynan denied the allegations in his own statement.
“It was made clear what they wanted, when they obtained my number and messaged me,” Tynan said on Twitter at the time. “They made it clear by any means necessary, their intention was to extort me out of money, as they claimed someone I know stiffed them.”
Tynan, 19, appeared in 44 OHL games this season with the Greyhounds and IceDogs. He made national headlines during the 2019-20 season when he was severely injured by a skate during a game. The injury cost him the entire 2020-21 season but he was able to return to the ice this season.
