Justin Gill, with two goals, and Israel Mianscum provided the rest of the offence for Sherbrooke (36-12-3-2). Olivier Adam turned away 26 shots.
Giuseppe Ianniello and Eriks Mateiko scored for Saint John (19-31-1-1). Ventsislav Shingarov made 34 saves.
Melanson moved into sole possession of second in the QMJHL by reaching the 40-goal mark. Meanwhile, Gill sits in fifth with 37 goals.
