Brent Seabrook named to management group for Canada’s World Junior team

Three-time Stanley Cup champion Brent Seabrook will be in the management group in charge of selecting Canada’s roster for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship, Hockey Canada announced Friday.

Seabrook will work alongside Peter Anholt, the U20 lead for the program of excellence at Hockey Canada. The 15-year NHL veteran Seabrook twice represented Canada at the World Juniors, and won Olympic gold with Canada in 2010.

Additionally, Sarnia Sting head coach Alan Letang was named head coach of Team Canada after serving as an assistant coach on the 2023 gold medal-winning squad. Joining Letang behind the bench will be assistant coaches Giles Bouchard, Shaun Clouston and former NHLer Scott Walker, as well as goaltending consultant Justin Pogge.

“I am excited to work with this world-class staff as we look to achieve our collective goal of defending gold and winning a World Junior Championship,” Anholt said in a statement issued by Hockey Canada. “I know every staff member is grateful for this opportunity and will represent our country with pride in Sweden, and we look forward to assembling a roster that will make Canadians proud as they cheer us on this holiday season.”

The 2024 World Juniors will be hosted by Gothenburg, Sweden, from Dec. 26-Jan. 5. Canada enters the tournament as the two-time defending champion.
