Dave Cameron named head coach of Canadian junior team, Ottawa 67’s

Dave Cameron is taking over for André Tourigny in not just one job, but two.

Cameron is the new head coach for Canada’s junior team and the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s, both roles last held by Tourigny who joined the Arizona Coyotes earlier this month.

“Dave is one of the best humans I have ever met and he’ll bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. His track record speaks for itself, but it’s really Dave’s values as a person and coach that makes this a phenomenal hiring,” said Tourigny in a press release.

Cameron most notably spent two seasons as head coach of the Ottawa Senators, making the playoffs in his first campaign (2014–15) and compiling a 70-50-17 overall.

The 62-year-old also served as an assistant with the Senators (2011-2014) and with the Calgary Flames (2016-2018).

He spent the last three seasons as head coach of the Vienna Capitals of ICE Hockey League.

Cameron has also had stints as head coach and general manager of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and St. Michael’s Majors, assistant coach with the St. John’s Maple Leafs and head coach of the Binghamton Senators.

Internationally, he’s won silver as head coach of Canada at the 2011 world juniors, as well as a gold and silver as an assistant in 2009 and 2010, respectively. He also captured gold as an assistant for Canada at the 2016 world championships.

Hockey Canada also announced Wednesday the 51 players invited to attend Canada’s national junior summer development camp, which runs from July 28 to Aug. 4 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuut’ina Nation near Calgary.
