WHL Roundup: Silvertips double up Chiefs, first to 90 points in West

EVERETT, Wash. — The Everett Silvertips became the first team to hit 90 points in the WHL’s Western Conference with a 6-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday.

Michal Gut had a goal and two assists, and Olen Zellweger had four helpers for the Silvertips (41-10-3-5).

Dexter Whittle, Caden Zaplitny, Alex Swetlikoff, Ben Hemmerling and Austin Roest, into the empty net, also scored. Niko Huuhtanen contributed two assists and Koen MacInnes made 23 saves.

Nick McCarry scored two for the Chiefs (19-35-4-1) in their third straight defeat. Ty Cheveldayoff had the other goal and Manny Panghli turned aside 26 pucks.

In the only other game, Taylor Gauthier stopped all 20 shots he faced and the Portland Winterhawks blanked the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-0.
