Canadian soccer star Alphonso Davies has reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid in either 2024 or 2025, according to Mario Cortegana and Raphael Honigstein of The Athletic,
A potential move involving Davies to Real Madrid remains in the works as the Spanish club hasn't reached out to negotiate a transfer deal with Bayern Munich, soccer insider Fabrizio Romano reports.
As Cortegnan and Honigstein report, the plan is for Davies to either join the La Liga club as a summer transfer for a below-market price or when his contract ends with Bayern Munich in 2025.
It has been known that Davies' preference has been to join Real Madrid since October. The real hurdle is for Real Madrid to begin negotiations with the Bundesliga club looking to avoid losing the Canadian for free in 2025.
Davies has played the last six seasons with Bayern. The 23-year-old joined the Bundesliga giants in January 2019 after starting his career with the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS.
The 23-year-old has made 180 appearances in all competitions with Bayern Munich scoring nine goals while helping the club win five Bundesliga titles, a pair of DFB-Pokals and the 2020 Champions League title.
Real Madrid is pushing to make significant additions with Kylian Mbappé the No. 1 target as the French star is set to depart Paris Saint-Germain.
