Report: Canadian defender Moise Bombito to sign with OGC Nice

After a breakout Copa América, another Canadian men's national team player has caught the attention of a top European club.

On Tuesday, soccer insider Fabrizio Romano and GiveMeSport's Tom Bogert reported that defender Moïse Bombito will sign with OGC Nice, which finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season.

The deal is reportedly worth US$7.7 million and will keep the 24-year-old at the French club, which is located on the southern coast, until 2028.

The Les Rouges star has been identified by Les Aiglons as a replacement for Jean-Clair Todibo, who signed with West Ham United of England's Premier League on Saturday.

Bombito, who's currently with the Colorado Rapids in MLS, quickly established himself among the best centre-backs in the league when he joined the Rapids in 2023. Last month, his speed, ball control and hustle earned him a spot on the 2024 MLS All-Star roster.

Currently, the Rapids sits fourth in the Western Conference with 41 points, and will take on Toluca in the Leagues Cup round of 16 Tuesday evening. Bombito has been a key part of Colorado's rise this season, tallying two goals and one assist in 18 games. The Montreal native also recorded the fastest sprint speed in a MLS match this season, hitting 37 km/h.

Once the deal is complete, Bombito would join Canada teammates Liam Millar, who signed with England's Hull City, and Junior Hoilett, who signed with Scotland's Hibernian, as players to make big moves in August. The moves bode well for the national men's program, with Canada set to co-host the World Cup with the U.S. and Mexico in 2026.
