Canada’s Yeji Kwon has put herself in a great position to reach the final qualifying tournament for an LPGA Tour card later this year.

The 18-year-old from Port Coquitlam, B.C. shot a sizzling 8-under 64 in the second round of a 72-hole qualifying stage in the LPGA Q-Series on Wednesday in Venice, Fla.

Kwon, who turned pro this summer, is now 6 under for the tournament and in a tie for seventh, three shots off the lead held by Roberta Liti of Italy and Americans Zoe Antoinette Campos and Ashley Menne.

Kwon’s 64 was the best round by any of the 194 players in the tournament so far.

The top 35 and ties advance to final qualifying in December. The top 25 and ties at the latter tournament earn LPGA Tour status.

Monet Chun of Richmond Hill, Ont. is also in the hunt to make the final stage. She’s tied for 28th at 3 under.

Kwon won the Canadian junior girls championship in 2022 and reached the round of 16 at the U.S. junior girls championship last year.
