It was another short night of work for starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
Sanchez, who rejoined the Toronto Blue Jays on a minor-league deal in May, was pulled after 2.2 innings Tuesday against the Syracuse Mets.
The 31-year-old right-hander was tagged for eight runs, all earned, on five hits — including four homers. Sanchez threw 64 pitches, 33 for strikes, with four walks and two strikeouts.
Syracuse won 10-2.
Sanchez (2-5) now holds a 12.44 ERA over eight starts including three consecutive losses.
He pitched 3.1 innings on June 13 against the Worchester Red Sox and gave up seven runs, all earned, on six hits with four walks and lasted just 1.2 innings on June 19 against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders surrendering seven runs, four earned, on five hits with two walks.
A first-round selection by the Blue Jays in 2010, Sanchez was a key member of the team’s starting rotation during their playoff seasons in 2015 and 2016. He posted a career-high 15 wins in 2016 and pitched in the All-Star Game.
Sanchez has a 38-38 record, 4.16 ERA and 541 strikeouts over eight seasons in the majors.
