Angels’ Ohtani, Rangers’ Seager and Semien finalists for AL MVP

A two-way superstar and the two cornerstones of the World Series-champion Texas Rangers are the finalists for the American League MVP Award.

Shohei Ohtani, the 2021 winner, is joined by Rangers shortstop Corey Seager — the World Series MVP — and Seager’s teammate, second baseman Marcus Semien, as the finalists for the AL’s top award.

Ohtani led the AL with 44 home runs and dominated on the mound with 167 strikeouts and a 3.14 ERA in 23 starts before injuries ended his season early.

Seager had 33 home runs and a 1.013 OPS to lead the Rangers back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Semien continued his iron man streak by appearing in all 162 games

Semien slashed .276/.348/.478 while hitting 29 home runs and driving in 100. He also scored 122 runs on his way to his third top-three MVP finish in the past five seasons.
