After making his triple-A debut with the Bisons 10 years ago, Aaron Sanchez will pitch for Buffalo once again later this week.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced Tuesday that the 31-year-old right-hander, whom they signed to a minor-league deal on Monday, has been assigned to triple-A and is scheduled to start Friday against the visiting Worcester Red Sox.
Sanchez pitched for the Bisons in 2014, 2015 and 2017 during his first tenure in the Blue Jays organization. In 12 career appearances with Buffalo, he posted a 4.53 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 43.2 innings.
His latest stop was in the minor leagues with the Minnesota Twins and Arizona Diamondbacks last season. He made 22 appearances in triple-A, starting 20 games but finished the year with a rough 5.54 ERA in 89.1 innings.
He last made a major-league appearance in 2022 with the Twins, pitching in eight games and starting three. He finished the year with a 4.71 ERA and became a free agent after the season.
An All-Star for the Blue Jays in 2016, Sanchez spent the first six years of his big-league career with Toronto, pitching to a 3.96 ERA in 571.0 innings.
Sanchez was also a part of the Blue Jays' 2015 and 2016 trips to the ALCS, pitching in 11 post-season games with a 3.32 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 19 innings.
In his final years in Toronto, he dealt with various hand injuries, limiting his production and he was subsequently traded to the Houston Astros in 2019 as part of a package for outfielder Derek Fisher.
First pitch between the Bisons and Worcester is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET / 3:05 p.m. PT.
