Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Santiago Espinal left Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after getting hit in the left hand by a pitch from reliever Robert Stephenson in the eighth inning.
The Blue Jays said X-rays were negative and that Espinal has a left hand contusion.
"We'll see how he feels tomorrow," manager John Schneider said after the game.
Espinal was lucky to not be hit in the head. He was down for several minutes and was attended to by trainer Jose Ministral.
Whit Merrifield replaced Espinal as a pinch runner.
