The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired catcher Juan Graterol from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for cash considerations.
Graterol will report to the club’s alternate training site, according to Sportsnet’ Shi Davidi.
The Blue Jays claimed Graterol off waivers from the Angels in January of 2017, but was later traded from the Blue Jays back to the Angels in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. In nine spring training games, Graterol slashed .300/.300/.400 with two RBIs.
The addition of Graterol is a strong backup for Danny Jansen or Alejandro Kirk, but also provides some insurance if they lose Reese McGuire on waivers or decide to trade him.
Catching prospect, Riley Adams, is with the team in New York and is expected to be a part of the taxi squad until start of the minor-league season.
