The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired relief pitcher Yerry Rodríguez from the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-hander Josh Mollerus.
Rodríguez has been optioned to triple-A Buffalo.
The 26-year-old has made 12 appearances this season with the Rangers, recording a 6.88 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 17 innings. He has also made 11 appearances in triple-A, where he has a 6.08 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 13.1 innings.
Texas signed Rodriguez as an undrafted free agent in 2015, and he made his MLB debut in 2022. The Dominican native has appeared in 26 career MLB games, posting a 7.11 ERA with 28 strikeouts.
Mollerus was drafted in the 10th round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon. The 24-year-old has appeared in 23 games this season for the Blue Jays High-A affiliate in Vancouver, going 1-4 with a 3.90 ERA in 30.0 innings.
