The Toronto Blue Jays acquired righty Joel Kuhnel from the Houston Astros in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced Saturday.
Kuhnel was optioned to triple-A Buffalo.
The 29-year-old has made one appearance for the Astros this season, giving up four runs on four hits over two innings.
In nine contests with the triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys, he has a 4-1 record and a 3.18 ERA over 11.1 innings. He was designated for assignment by the Astros earlier this week.
Over the course of his five-year MLB career, Kuhnel has a 6.30 ERA in 85.2 innings pitched.
