The Toronto Blue Jays pitching staff will be getting some much-needed help as Ross Stripling has been activated from the injured list.
Trent Thornton was optioned to triple-A Buffalo to make room for Stripling.
Stripling threw five shutout innings in a rehab start for the Buffalo Bisons, allowing three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
The right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right glute/hip strain back on Aug. 3 after pitching four scoreless innings in his last start against the Detroit Tigers.
Stripling is 5-3 with a 3.16 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 15 walks this season after moving into the starting rotation after Hyun Jin Ryu suffered a season-ending elbow injury.
