It didn't take long for Addison Barger to get his welcome to MLB moment.
Making his big league debut against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, and playing left field for the first time in his career, the 24-year-old's first introduction to the Blue Jays fanbase probably wasn't the one he was hoping for.
Barger let a fly ball carry over his head in the second inning that turned into a Kyle Isbel triple after the Blue Jays outfielder bobbled the pick up as well. Isbel would then come into score to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.
Barger was charged an error for the bobble.
Toronto's No. 6 prospect, according to MLB pipeline, almost made up for it with his first at-bat when he set a deep fly ball that nearly left the park but was caught at the centre-field warning track.
Barger was able to make up for his outfield gaffe in the third inning when he made a leaping catch at the wall in left field.
His eventful night still wasn't done there, as in his second at-bat in the fifth inning, Barger hit a line drive back at Royals starter Alec Marsh. The ball hit Marsh on the forearm and forced him to leave the game.
Barger was still thrown out on the play and is still searching for his first MLB hit.
So much for flying under the radar in his first big league game. Especially when Barger told reporters he was working on about 20 minutes of sleep after getting the call to the majors late Tuesday in Buffalo.
He will probably sleep well tonight.
