Blue Jays announce opening-day lineup, Roden to make MLB debut

Just over six hours before first pitch, the Toronto Blue Jays officially announced their opening-day roster and lineup on Thursday.

Most notably, Alan Roden will make his MLB debut in right field and bat ninth in the Jays lineup against the Baltimore Orioles.

Bo Bichette will bat lead-off, followed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Anthony Santander.

New addition Andres Gimenez will bat in the cleanup spot and start at second base.

Fresh off a contract extension, catcher Alejandro Kirk will bat fifth. George Springer will start in centre field for the injured Daulton Varsho and bat sixth.

Rounding out Toronto's lineup is Will Wagner batting seventh as the DH, and Ernie Clement at third base batting eighth.

Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Blue Jays, the third time he's been selected as Toronto's Opening Day starter.

To set their official 40-man roster, the Blue Jays also made a number of paper transactions.

Roden, OF Myles Straw and RHP Jacob Barnes were all officially selected to the Major League roster.

To make room, RHP Tommy Nance, RHP Zach Pop and RHP Nick Robertson have been designated for assignment.

The Blue Jays also made a couple of official injury designations to start the season. Varsho (shoulder) will start on the 10-day IL, while RHPs Erik Swanson (elbow) and Ryan Burr will start on the 15-day IL.

All three players were placed on the injured list retroactive to March 24.
