Blue Jays' Anthony Kay 'fine now' after taking comebacker off leg

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Kay says he is “fine now” after sustaining a lower right leg contusion that forced him out of Saturday’s spring game against the New York Yankees.

“It (the baseball) got me on the inner shin,” Kay told reporters. “I’m fine now. It’s just a bruise.”

Kay took a comebacker off the leg during the third inning of his start. He finished with 2 2/3 innings pitched, allowing seven hits, two runs and two walks with one strikeout.

Assuming he makes the major league roster, Kay will be entering his third season with the Blue Jays after coming over from the New York Mets in July of 2019 as part of the Marcus Stroman trade.

In 35 career innings, Kay has posted a 5.40 ERA with a 4.03 FIP and a nine strikeouts-per-nine rate.
