Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt reached 200 innings for the first time in his career, and he did it in style.
Entering the eighth inning, Bassitt needed just two outs to become just the fourth pitcher in the majors to reach the 200-inning mark. After picking up the first out, New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge stepped up to the plate.
Bassitt struck the Yankees slugger out, then was immediately removed from the game with a standing ovation from the Rogers Centre crowd.
The 34-year-old right-hander gave up five hits, zero runs and struck out 12 in 7.2 innings Thursday. It was his sixth start of 2023 where he went seven-plus innings and had zero earned runs allowed, tied for most in MLB
Bassitt was one of the Blue Jays' big free-agency signings this off-season, and he has enjoyed a very productive season in his first year in Toronto. He had a 3.74 ERA and a 15-8 record coming into Thursday's game.
