Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette exited Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians after grounding out in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Blue Jays reported he exited because of tightness in his right quadriceps muscle.
After the 10-7 loss, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Bichette has been playing through the quad issue and the club made the decision to pull him for precautionary reasons, per MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. Schneider added the issue is not related to the right patellar tendinitis that put Bichette on the IL earlier this month.
Schneider said Bichette's status is considered day-to-day.
Matt Chapman also left the game due to right middle finger inflammation, with Whit Merrifield hitting for the third baseman in the top of the sixth inning.
Chapman previously missed three games with the finger issue.
Schneider said Chapman will go for an MRI.
Bichette was replaced by Santiago Espinal, who took up duties at shortstop when the Blue Jays took to the field in the sixth.
Bichette previously missed 16 games due to patellar tendinitis after tweaking his right knee while rounding the bases during a game against the Baltimore Orioles on July 31. He made his return to the lineup on Aug. 19.
