After making his long-awaited return to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, Bo Bichette was a late scratch for Wednesday's contest against the Texas Rangers.
The Blue Jays announced that he was removed from the lineup with a right middle finger contusion.
After a 2-0 loss to Texas, Toronto manager John Schneider told reporters that Bichette suffered the injury while taking ground balls before the game.
Schneider said that Bichette went for an X-ray during the game and that the Blue Jays are waiting for the results.
Bichette was originally scheduled to bat second and play shortstop. With the injury, Davis Schneider got the bump to the two-hole, Ernie Clement moved from third to short and Addison Barger was inserted into the starting nine.
In Bichette's return, the 26-year-old went 2-for-5 with two singles in Toronto's 13-8 loss.
The two-time All-Star is now batting .225 with four home runs and five stolen bases over 81 games this season. Bichette was dealing with a calf strain that had kept him out since July 19.
You can watch as the Blue Jays send Bowden Francis to the mound to square off with Cody Bradford and the Rangers in the second game of their series in Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET and 5:05 p.m. PT.
