Though the Blue Jays have seen a timely turnaround of late on offence, one thing has stayed the same: Zeroes on the board after the first inning.
After getting blanked once again at the start of their outing against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, Toronto broke a franchise record, not scoring in the first for the 21st straight game.
The inning started with a Davis Schneider strikeout in five pitches. Daulton Varsho followed up with a strikeout of his own and though Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drew a walk, Bo Bichette struck out to end the inning.
They last saw a first-inning tally on the scoresheet on May 4 against the Washington Nationals.
The original record was set in the team's inaugural 1977 season, when the team's lack of production in the first helped translate to a brutal 54-107 record by season's end.
They had a good chance to break their streak in Tuesday's game against the White Sox as Schneider hit a lead-off double, but in all-too-familiar fashion, was left stranded as the inning ended following three consecutive outs on the 2-3-4 spots.
