Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said infielder Cavan Biggio has left shoulder tendinitis and isn't hitting live pitching on-field to begin spring training, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.
Biggio, 28, hit nine home runs with a .710 OPS in 106 games in 2023. He also spent significant time defensively at four different positions — first base, second base, third base and right field.
The left-handed hitting Biggio found much of his success last season in the second half, posting a .272/.404/.361 slash line over his final 53 games of 2023.
Matheson said that Biggio's injury "sounds more like mid-February precaution."
Biggio is entering his sixth season with Toronto after debuting in 2019. He has appeared in 446 career games with the club, hitting 46 home runs, driving in 167 runs and hitting .229/.345/.389.
