Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 UCL sprain in his left elbow.
The team says he’ll be shut down from hitting for a week before the Blue Jays chart a path forward in his recovery.
Biggio sustained the injury this past Friday while diving for a ball in the outfield during his minor-league rehab assignment with triple-A Buffalo.
“I didn’t think it was that bad, but we’ll see,” Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo told the Canadian Press during a pre-game availability Tuesday.
The 26-year-old from Houston was placed on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 3 due to mid-back tightness. He has seven homers and 26 RBIs in 246 plate appearances this season with a slash line of .215/.316/.350.
