Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio left Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Royals due to pain in his right hand. The team announced after the game that X-rays came back negative.
The incident occurred in the fourth inning when a line drive down the third-base line struck Biggio’s bare hand. This marks the second hand issue for Biggio over the past month as he also dealt with an injury to his pinky finger during spring training.
The versatile 26-year-old was 0-for-2 with an error prior to his departure. Veteran Joe Panik took over at third base.
Biggio is off to a slow start to the 2021 campaign, hitting .179 entering play Thursday.
Toronto has been plagued by injuries early in the season, with pitchers Ross Stripling and Jordan Romano the latest players to be added to the injured list earlier Thursday.
