The Toronto Blue Jays have added some catcher depth to the organization.
The Blue Jays claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets, the team announced Saturday.
Ross was then optioned to triple-A Buffalo.
The 26-year-old catcher made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2026, appearing in two big-league games before he was claimed by the Mets.
In 70 games split between the triple-A and double-A level this season, Ross is slashing .184/.333/.418 with 13 doubles and 11 home runs.
He likely won't see any time with the Blue Jays this season unless Alejandro Kirk or Brandon Valenzuela suffer an injury.
