The Toronto Blue Jays claimed right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
Tate was optioned to triple-A Buffalo.
The 30-year-old reliever made 29 appearances with the Orioles this season and had a 2-1 record, 4.59 ERA and 23 strikeouts with one save over 33.1 innings.
Tate was drafted fourth overall by the Texas Rangers in 2015. He was traded to the New York Yankees the following year and was acquired by the Orioles in 2018 before making his major-league debut.
The Harbor City, Calif., native has a career 7-14 record, 4.07 ERA and 166 strikeouts over five seasons with Baltimore.
The Blue Jays also designated right-handed pitcher Paolo Espino for assignment.
