The Toronto Blue Jays are nearing a deal with relief pitcher Sergio Romo, a source has confirmed Monday with Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
Jon Heyman of the MLB Network was the first to report.
Since pitching for the San Francisco Giants during the first nine seasons of his career, earning 84 saves and three World Series titles, Romo has bounced around the majors playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics until joining the Seattle Mariners on a one-year deal earlier this season.
The 39-year-old right-hander pitched 14.1 innings over 17 appearances with an 8.16 ERA and 11 strikeouts before he was designated for assignment by Seattle on June 20.
Romo, who was an all-star in 2013, holds a 42-35 record with a 3.18 ERA, 785 strikeouts and 137 saves over his 15-year career.
