The Toronto Blue Jays anticipate that closer Jordan Romano could make his return to the lineup tonight against the San Diego Padres if he's needed, after missing a week with left lower back soreness.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury during last week's MLB All-Star Game and has been sidelined ever since. An MRI in the days that followed came back clean, but the Blue Jays opted to keep Romano listed as day-to-day as a precaution.
The native of Markham, Ont., leads the American League with 26 saves and holds a 2.87 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 37.2 innings pitched this season.
