The Toronto Blue Jays made a trade on Sunday, obtaining catcher Tyler Heineman for infielder Vinny Capra.
It's a return for the 31-year-old Heineman, who signed as a free agent with Toronto a year ago and played in 10 games for the Blue Jays before the Pirates grabbed him off waivers on May 16.
Heineman has only played three MLB games this season for the Pirates, with six more at Triple-A Indianapolis. He was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo after being added to the Jays' 40-man roster. Outfielder Jordan Luplow was assigned outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
Heineman has a MLB career slash line of .210/.276/.269.
Capra, 26, a 20th-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2018, had only appeared in eight games with the big club, which all came in 2022. He was slashing .167/.357/.222 this season in 17 games with Buffalo.
