  • Blue Jays' Davis Schneider out of lineup for final game of series vs. Astros

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman and outfielder Davis Schneider has been left off the lineup sheet for the team's rubber match against the Houston Astros, the team announced on Wednesday.

Starting at second base instead will be Cavan Biggio, while Daulton Varsho patrols left field, the other position Schneider has suited up at so far this season.

Schneider has appeared in three games for the Blue Jays so far this season and most notably hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

The Blue Jays will be taking on righty pitcher Christian Javier on Wednesday.

Last season, Schneider hit .314 with eight homers against lefties and only .247 with two homers against righties, so the team may be opting to hold him out in more unfavourable pitching matchups.

So far this year, Schneider is hitting .250 with two home runs and four RBI. Both round-trippers came against left-handed pitchers, Tyler Alexander and Josh Hader.

You can watch the Blue Jays try and win the rubber match against the Astros live on Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet+ at 8:10 p.m. ET / 5:10 p.m. PT.
