Toronto Blue Jays infielder Santiago Espinal had to leave Saturday's game in New York after getting hit by a pitch from Yankees starter Gerrit Cole.
Espinal was looking at an 0-2 count in the top of the second inning when Cole threw a 98 mph fastball inside that caught him on the right wrist.
The Blue Jays later revealed that Espinal suffered a right wrist contusion and is undergoing further evaluation.
Manager John Schneider and the team therapist came out to assess Espinal, eventually deciding to remove him from the game. Cavan Biggio came in for him and assumed his position at second base.
After the 3-2 loss, Schneider told reporters Espinal was going for further tests and there would be an update on Sunday.
