The Toronto Blue Jays expect catcher Danny Jansen to miss several weeks because of a left oblique strain, manager Charlie Montoyo said Tuesday.
Jansen was placed on the 10-day IL on Monday after suffering the injury on Sunday during the series finale against the visiting Texas Rangers.
Montoyo said Alejandro Kirk should receive the majority of playing time with Jansen out. Catcher Zack Collins also is on Toronto's roster.
In other roster news, Montoyo said left-hander Ryan Borucki threw a 30-pitch simulated game Tuesday and is nearing a return.
Right-hander Nate Pearson (mononucleosis) threw from 90 feet on Tuesday, Montoyo said. The manager said Pearson is further off from a return.
