Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is expected to need more than 10 days to recover during his latest stint on the injured list, according to general manager Ross Atkins.
Springer was placed back on the injured list on Wednesday with a right quad strain after an MRI showed a re-aggravation of the issue that sidelined him earlier this season.
Atkins told reporters on Thursday that Springer was “actually feeling better today” and that the franchise’s record signing is frustrated with the latest setback.
Springer, who signed a six-year, $150-million contract this off-season, has played in four games for the Blue Jays since making his debut on April 28. He’s served as the team’s designated hitter in all four appearances. The 31-year-old last played on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves when he was taken out of the game with left leg fatigue.
In his four appearances in 2021, Springer has two home runs and three RBIs in 15 at-bats.
