The Blue Jays announced their lineup prior to the matchup with Randal Grichuk pencilled into Springer’s usual centre-field spot.
Manager Charlie Montoyo said Sunday that the 31-year-old is day-to-day after suffering a mild left ankle sprain while attempting to make a catch at the outfield wall vs. the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. Springer landed awkwardly on his leg, but was able to walk off the field without assistance.
Through 50 games this season, Springer is hitting .274 with 16 home runs and 35 RBI across 48 games and had recently earned AL Player of the Week honours twice in a row.
Springer missed significant time to start the season with a quadriceps injury.
