Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer will not be in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Minnesota Twins.
Springer has been dealing with discomfort in his right elbow and missed three games earlier this week.
The 32-year-old returned to action Thursday as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs plus a run scored during the 9-3 victory over the Twins.
Springer is slashing .251/.331/.464 with 18 home runs and 49 RBIs this season.
All-star catcher Alejandro Kirk is also not listed in the starting lineup with Danny Jansen expected behind the plate.
Newest acquisition Whit Merrifield will lead things off and play in centre field. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will bat at DH in the No. 3 spot followed by right fielder Teoscar Hernandez in the cleanup role.
Starting pitcher Jose Berrios will take the mound against his former club. Berrios was traded to the Blue Jays just over a year ago for prospects Austin Martin and Simeon Woods Richardson.
