The Toronto Blue Jays claimed outfielder Jordan Luplow off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday and optioned him to triple-A Buffalo.
Luplow, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Pirates (2014) who played 83 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season, batting .176 and hitting 11 homers. The Braves signed Luplow in the off-season and he was designated for assignment after hitting .300 in three games with triple-A Gwinnett. He has 323 games of MLB experience, batting .213 with 88 extra-base hits and 120 RBI.
In other moves, the Jays transferred pitcher Hyun Jin Ryu to the 60-day injured list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
The Blue Jays return to the field Wednesday night when Alek Manoah faces the Kansas City Royals. First pitch on Sportsnet and SN NOW is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET.
