Toronto Blue Jays star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. exited Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees in the ninth inning after appearing to land awkwardly while fielding a bunt attempt in the eighth.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after the game that Guerrero Jr. left because of right knee discomfort and will get an MRI.
Guerrero initially waved off Schneider when he came out of the dugout to see if the first baseman was OK after the bunt by Gleyber Torres, but the Jays made the decision to remove him with the Yankees leading 5-3 after eight.
Guerrero was due up fourth in the ninth inning, so the move raised some concerns.
Brandon Belt, who came in to pinch hit for right-fielder Cavan Biggio in the eighth, played first in the ninth with Nathan Lukes going to right.
Guerrero is slashing .312/.385/.516 with seven homers and 26 RBI this season
