Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio suffered a left elbow sprain during the off-season but could get on the field for a spring training game this week, manager Charlie Montoyo confirmed Monday.
Biggio struggled with injuries last season appearing in only 79 games with the Blue Jays slashing .224/.322/.356 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs. The 26-year-old also spent time in triple-A Buffalo playing in 22 games where he slashed .182/.289/.325 with three home runs and 11 RBIs.
Biggio remains a key part of the Blue Jays as one of the few left-handed bats in the lineup.
