Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier is available to come off the bench Friday against the Boston Red Sox after sitting out the three-game series against the San Francisco Giants with back spasms.
Kiermaier, who took fly balls and batting practice on Friday, says he hopes to return to the starting lineup on Saturday.
"Still slight soreness and discomfort, but much better than where it was," Kiermaier said.
Kiermaier is slashing .276/.332/.444 with four homers and 18 RBI this year.
Meanwhile, right-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu, coming off Tommy John surgery, threw three innings of a simulated game on Wednesday.
The team is targeting Ryu pitching in a live, lower-level minor-league game on July 4 in Florida.
Also, right-handed reliever Zach Pop (hamstring) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance on Saturday for triple-A Buffalo, per Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic.
